Soft Tissue Management
Brent Ludens, DDS
Participants: DVSC Members
Sponsored by: Nobel
2CEU
Location:
Paxon Hollow
850 Paxon Hollow Road
Media, PA 19063
Description:
Dental implant therapy has become the norm of many dental practices. Placing implants and restoring the patient to function have become commonplace. Restoring an implant restoration that is esthetic and indistinguishable from the surrounding natural dentition remains a challenge.
Dr. Ludens will discuss in detail, using examples from patients in his own private practice, how to deliver predictable esthetic restorations that will meet your demands and exceed your patient’s expectations in a way that is both simple to understand, easily implemented, and predictable.
Dr. Ludens will show how non-surgical soft tissue management can be employed in a way that very simply develops the natural soft tissues found in our dentate patients the emergence, profile, and the papilla. He will discuss the techniques used for both delayed and immediate implant scenarios common to the everyday dental practice.
Utilizing the proper components is also very important. Dr. Ludens will discuss the components available, and the rationale for their use, which will help minimize future complications as well. Attendees will leave with the knowledge to predictably and immediately deliver this care to their own patients.

Smart Dental Biomaterials: From Antibacterial to Tissue Regeneration
Santiago Orrego, PHD
Participants: DVSC Members
Sponsored by: PAOMS
2CEU
Location:
Paxon Hollow Golf Club
850 Paxton Hollow Road
Media, PA 19063
Description:
Multifunctional biomaterials play a crucial role in the next generation of biomedical devices. There are increasing demands for new classes of biomaterials that are responsive to local stimuli (e.g. change in pH, temperature) for the effective application of a therapy (e.g. anti-infection, drug delivery, regeneration). The successful development of these technologies could lead to the improvement of overall health and reduction of medical costs associated with diseases.
In this talk, I will present our recent advances on the development of different, smart dental biomaterials with intriguing multi-functionalities. Specifically, I will describe our novel dental resin composite with dual functionalities including antibacterial and regeneration. Furthermore, I will present our biomaterial that mimics bone in the ability to self-stiffen in response to external loading.

Management and Prevention of Peri-Implant Diseases
Paul Chang, DDS, MS
Participants: DVSC Members
Sponsored by: Biolase
2CEU
Location:
1912 Club
888 Plymouth Road
Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462
Description:
Dental implants have become widely accepted for the replacement of missing teeth due to their high success of osseointegration. With more implants being placed and in function, we are facing a significant increase in complications ranging from screw loosening, implant fracture, gum recession and bone loss. Dental implant complications can occur at any point in the treatment process. Proper treatment planning, surgical technique and precise fit of the restoration can help avoid complications. This presentation will empower clinicians with the skill and knowledge to effectively prevent and manage implant complications, when they occur, using Er,Cr:YSGG laser implant repair protocol. Why Er,Cr:YSGG laser wavelength is the most effective tool in decontaminating diseased implant surface. The mechanism of action of different laser wave length will be discussed. As we all know, not all lasers are the same.
Learning Objectives
- Recognize the multiple etiologies of peri-implant disease.
- Compare and contrast different laser systems on soft and hard tissue.
- Determine which laser wavelength is best suited for implant surface decontamination.
- Diagnose and develop treatment plan various stages of periimplant mucositis and periimplantitis
